In 2003 Phuture Design worked with the Long Island Community Foundation, a division of the New York Community Trust, to redesign its web site. The main goal of the project was to allow the Foundation's audiences - grantseekers, potential and actual donors, and professional advisors - easy and intuitive access to grant guidelines, information about how to set up a fund, and the activities of the Foundation. LICF staff also looked for the ability to keep the site up to date themselves, managing news and event information as well as specific grant deadlines.
"Working with Phuture Design was a great experience. They listened to our needs and delivered a project that exceeded our expectations. Each of our audiences - grantseekers, donors and potential donors, and professional advisors - has fast, easy access to the information they need. I'm not afraid of the technology anymore! Phuture Design made designing a website thoughtful, creative, and fun."Hazel Weiser, Director of Foundation Advancement
Long Island Community Foundation
Phuture Design took on the project and worked closely with the client to design a site around the way their audiences would most likely look for the information. By separating out their audiences on the homepage we were able to speak to each of them directly and guide them to the appropriate section for more information.
The site was designed and built using Transitional XHTML 1.0 and CSS. The use of CSS for maintaining text and positioning allows for a standards compliant site that is easy to update and modify.
To allow LICF the ability to manage their own content Phuture Design turned to the Movable Type publishing system. By using Movable Type to manage Recent News and Upcoming Events, LICF staff has been able to easily update the site, keeping the homepage fresh with new and interesting content. They are also able to manage the deadlines for grant submissions and various other pages of their site. The Movable Type tool incorporates a workflow system which is great for allowing multiple users the ability to work on the same site.
Since the launch of the site the response has been fantastic. Users continuously compliment LICF for the ease of use and overall design of the site. According to LICF staff the site has attracted new members of each of the audiences - grantseekers, new donors, and professional advisors.
